Our careers can be a lot like a road trip. 🚗
They can be exciting adventures with amazing scenery. Conversely, they can also be long frustrating treks with obstacles and construction. Regardless of the hills and valleys, my passion is to serve as your GPS for the ride. 🧭
The GPS doesn't decide where your destination lies. YOU DO. The GPS simply helps you navigate the thrilling and sometimes uncertain roads ahead and occasionally helps you find shortcuts, avoid construction, and discover new destinations you didn't even know about!
If this is your first serious journey (you're a student, new grad, or early career professional), then let's talk about how I can guide you!
MY STORY
I started my professional career in 2007 when I graduated from Radford University in Virginia with Master of Science in Counseling. I began my journey like so many young people. I didn't know exactly what I wanted but I did start with one single mission:
Help others progress.
Shortly after graduating I moved to Michigan with my wife and I started my career working as a mental health therapist in a few different settings including in-home treatment, residential treatment, and outpatient. I worked with literally every type of individual you can imagine. I got to work with and help individuals from every age group, race, socioeconomic status, religion, and sexual orientation/identity. One of the most amazing things about my work has been the diversity of people I have encountered.
In 2011, an opportunity presented itself to take my skills and work in higher education at a local community college. I saw this as a great challenge where I can see myself excel in a different environment. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made because it opened the door to working in career development. In 2013, another opportunity presented to assume the role of career counselor and begin teaching courses in career development. My spark was lit!
At this point I fell in love with what I was doing because I felt incredibly empowered to help others AND I was seeing the results! Over the next few years, I ventured out to learn what I could and take on new challenges included presenting workshops, attending conferences, gaining my certifications in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator as well as Professional Resume Writing.
In 2019, I joined the team at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI as a Career Coach where I continue to work with the incredible students addressing major and career choice, career readiness, and transitioning to work.
In 2020, I decided to turn the pandemic into an opportunity. I decided to start my own business Mint To Be Career, LLC and start my own podcast "Your Career GPS" to help guide the next generation on their career journeys. Having been incredibly fortunate to have found my passion in life and the vehicle to perform my work, I am deeply committed to helping others find the same. I believe we all have a "mint to be" career.
Over the last few years, I have had the great fortune of helping over 100 people with direct 1:1 support leading to more career clarity and success landing jobs and promotions!
MY STYLE
I blend my personality and core nature of being a compassionate helper, with knowledge of human psychology, with my skills developed as a therapist (empathy, authenticity, solution-focused approach, and expertise in career development attained as a college instructor and coach. Together I blend these into a highly personal career coaching process developed on harnessing the deep potential of my clients. I help them develop clarity on their goals, own their personal brand messaging through LinkedIn and resume writing and cap it off with the job search strategies that are proven to work.
